11.- Roman Aqueduct (1)

Objectives:

  To understand the functions and constructive process of an aqueduct.

  To do short and simple mathematical operations.

  To appreciate a monument.


Curricular area:

Knowledge of social and cultural environment.

Knowledge of the natural environment.

Art and language.


Place: The aqueduct.

Level: From 8 to 12 years old students.

Time: School year.

Activity:
Type: Work “in situ”.
Description:

All the group will listen to the legend of the Devil’s Bridge and the explanation of its functions and building of the aqueduct: tools, instruments, parts of the arch. To follow up, we divide the class into 3 groups which will shift to take measures, additions, and drawings. If teachers agree, they will get the chance of crossing it.

Material:

A dossier for students, communicating vessels, measure tapes, and an arch

Time:

Half a day.

Means of transport: By bus.

Observations:

Teachers must have divided the class into 3 groups before starting the activity.
