TARRAGONA IN ROMAN TIMES TO RETURN ACTIVITIES  

14.- The Praetorium

Objectives:

  To understand the preserved rests and contextualize them.

  To understand and identity Hypolit´s myth.

  To see cities as living creatures changing throughout the time.


Curricular area:

Knowledge of social and cultural environment.

Social Sciences Classical Culture.


Place: Praetorium.

Level: From 9 to 16 years old students.

Time: School year.

Activity:
Type: Work “in situ”.
Description:

We work on indoor and outdoor parts of the building. We Identify constructive techniques, reformations on the façade since 1800, parts of an arch, reconstruction of a Forum, legend of Romul and Rem. In the indoor part, we compare Hypolit’s sarcophagus (iconographic, sculptural work and a scale model of Tarraco (identifying its parts) to the Medieval parts.

Material:

A dossier for pupils, students and teachers. We have a short story on Hypolit’s myth for Primary Education pupils.

Durada:

Half a day.

Means of transport: On foot.

Observations:

The class will be divided into two groups, a subgroup will work on the sarcophagus and the other one, on the scale model. Later, each subgroup will shift the other topic, the former working on the scale model and the latter, on the sarcophagus.
