To recognize present day’s drugs’ origin in the Roman world.
To discover the advances of Roman surgery in the retrieved archaeological rests and texts.

| Description: |
This activity starts by sharing information about students’ illesses, traumatisms and operations: colds, falls .. to see that illnesses have not changed much. We work on several aspects to connect present day medicine to the Roman one: population, hygiene and health. The terms and Insulae.. Gods: anatomists, of heath, doctors and illnesses. Scientific medicine: plants, animals and minerals, recipes, illnesses. Surgical instruments and surgery in general. Archaeological findings referred to Medicine and their conclusions.

Didactic guide for teacher and a students’ workbook. Medicines from plants, animals and minerals. Sculptures showing chicken pox . Surgical instruments of the Roman Age: scalpels, needles, spatulas, spoons, thongs, tweezers etc. |

| Observations: |
The class is divided into five groups to shift to work on many aspects. A visit to the MNAT is proposed as a following up work for a direct observation of surgical instruments. |
