TARRAGONA IN ROMAN TIMES TO RETURN ACTIVITIES  

22.- The legionary

Objectives:

  To know a Roman soldier’s life.

  To identify the uniform and the weapons in the Roman army.

  To understand the parts and functions of a Roman campsite.


Curricular area:

Place: Camp d’Aprenentatge.

Level: From 8-10 years old pupils to 17 years old students.

Time: School year.

Activity:
Type: Workshop.
Description:

They study the part of a Roman campsite on a detachable scale model and they tell the differences between a legionary, a centurion, and an auxiliary. Then we analyse each one of the pieces of the uniform, and we dress a few students up.

Material:

A dossier for the students, three cut outs (soldiers), scales models on camp sites, reproductions of uniforms, weapons and soldiers’ tools.

Time: Half a day.
Means of transport: By bus.

Observations:

The class must be divided into three groups.
