31.- The Diocesan Museum of the Cathedral of Tarragona

Objectives:

  To facilitate the pupils the acquisition of mechanisms – of reflection and observation – to approach the work of art.

  To know the liturgical objects and their historical context and origin.

  To analyse some of the most emblematic items of the Museum.


Curricular area:

Social Sciences.


Place:

The Cathedral of Tarragona.


Level: From 13 to 18 years old students.

Time: School year.

Activity:
Type: Work “in situ”.
Description:

Previous works will permit to know the techniques to make the exhibited items, contextualize them and discover their function. The visit to the Museum could become a valuable resource to enliven their imagination, to establish associations with other well-known realities –to compare them- and try to connect our personal interpretations to the figures there.

Material:

Didactic guide, workbook, backpack with: a stained glass, a game on baroque sculpture, and a set of cards on the family tree shown in “El tapís de la Bona Vida”.

Time: Half a day.
Means of transport: On foot.

Observations:

The teacher must have chosen the items to study in advance, according to students’ age and their interpretations. Five groups must be done. This material can be used in an autonomous way.
