35.- On the writing track

Objectives:

  To know the origin and supporting writing materials.

  To discover the origin and development of the alphabet.

  Students have the chance of know medieval writing techniques and their use writing using medieval tools.


Curricular area:

Social Sciences. Art. Technology. Language and Literature.

Camp d’Aprenentatge.

From 11 to 18 years old students.

Description:

This proposal includes some systems of written communication, such as painted or epigraphied scenes throughout the history, portraying kinds of alphabets and supporting materials. We will focussed on Middle Age writing and we will expand our specific vocabulary used in one masterpiece: the box, the miniatures or the watermarks. The work of the parchments maker , illuminator, the copyist and the gilder. To end up, we suggest a short writing be initial letter, using the materials of that period: parchment, birds feathers, stiletto, lead pointed pen, knife...

Material:

Didactic guide for teachers and students and a student’s workbook. Parchments, feathers, stylus, lead pointed pen, ruler, Medieval ink tanks, clay in colours, burnished gold applied on a leaf.

Time:

A day.

Means of transport:

By Bus.


Observations:

Groups cannot exceed 25 students.
