7.- The fortress (2)

Objectives:

  To understand the way a fortress was built.

  To go along the part of the city which is still protected by the fortress.

  To understand the defensive systems of a Roman city.

Place: The fortress: entrance at « Passeig de les Muralles », and exit at « Portal del Roser ».

Level: 11-18 years old student.

Time: School year.

Work “in situ”

Description:

Students will work out the dimensions of the fortress and its rest.
At the same time, we analyse its parts, tell the differences between the doors, the functions of the towers and later reformations, caused by demographic and army changes and we analyse the surviving iconography.

Material:

An illustrated dossier for students.

Time: Two hours.
Means of transport: On foot.

Observations

This activity is designed to be autonomous.
